Special Effect Contact Lens Care

Even Special Effect Contact Lenses Require a Little Care

Special effect contact lenses are a great way to completely change your look. Stepping out as someone totally new is great fun, but at the end of the day, just like any other lenses, they require care and some maintenance.

The Importance of Contact Lens Care
If you have ever had a regular pair of contact lenses you know that the cleaning process is the most important part of protecting your lenses and your eyes. Failing to properly clean your lenses can result in damage to your contacts or even worse, a nasty infection in your eyes caused by a build-up of bacteria. The special effect contact lens care process is exactly the same as for any other regular lens. To keep your lenses clean and your eyes in good health follow these simple steps:

  1. Before you even think of touching your eyes, wash your hands! It is crucial that your hands be germ and bacteria free before inserting your lenses.
  2. Take one lens and clean it with an approved cleansing solution. This is the best way to remove any build-up on the lens before storing it overnight.
  3. Place your lens in a case and fill it with a disinfecting saline solution. You should allow your lenses to soak for at least a few hours, but the time will vary depending on which cleansing products you use.
  4. Repeat the cleaning process with your other lens.
  5. If you find that your lenses are getting a little blurry, buy a protein remover kit. To use this product, allow the protein tablet to soak in some disinfectant solution, then add your lenses to soak overnight. In the morning, take your lenses and repeat your cleaning process again from step one.

A Few More Tips For Proper Contact Lens Care…

  • Do not share your contacts with others. Although special effect contact lenses are worn for fun, they should not be shared with your friends. No matter how jealous someone may be of your amazing green eyes, keep your lenses to yourself.
  • Do not ever put into your eye a contact lens that has a tear, no matter how small.
  • Do not sleep with your contact lenses on. Even after a night of partying, remember to take your lenses out so that your eyes can breathe.
